PICTURE OF THE MONTH

Mothers on their own
This month, as an illustration, we bring you this key scene from the film “Bird Box” featuring the actress Sandra Bullock. It may seem an overly dramatic picture, but many mothers on their own feel a bit like that. They feel like they’re drowning in their problems, and can see no fixes for the needs they and their children are struggling with. Some of the cases we deal with at our Home, the “Resi”, are like that.
Here at our Home we have mixed feelings. On the one hand, we are pleased to be able to help them by looking after their children. On the other hand, we are saddened to see that various problems (lack of a job, poor health, loneliness…) combine to prevent their circumstances from improving. We help them, yes, but it falls short of their needs.
We have to admit that between us all, government organisations, social service centers, churches and charitable organisations supporting us, we offer a range of assistance for them which is very beneficial. But it is insufficient. This is not to suggest that we should be discouraged. Quite the contrary. This is why we need to maintain all the support we are able to offer and, at the same time, be filled with love and sensitivity when seeing needs which are beyond our ability to deal with. Thank you for helping us!
