| If we fail to look after it properly, our home can be invaded by different crises which roam our neighbourhood. With the climate crisis, if we don’t repair cracks, we can suffer the extremes of heat or cold. With the educational crisis, we may become home to school drop-outs. With the economic crisis, we may be tempted to forget solidarity and the dignity that goes with a simple lifestyle. With the crisis in values and standards, we may take on board the disorderliness and relativism of post-modern thought. |

| Here in our children’s home, the “Resi”, we try to make sure that these “squatter” crises stay outside our doors. We combat the economic crisis by good management. We keep the educational crisis at bay with volunteers to help with homework and tuition. We keep the biting cold outside by only opening doors and windows for the few seconds or minutes really needed. And we prevent ourselves from being infected by the crisis in values by vaccinations of truth and love. In the photo, between two of our older girls, you can see Ana María Peñate, a friendly missionary from the Canary Islands, who aims to teach them that values can be both serious and fun at the same time. She is one of our helpers to ensure that our home is not just free from squatters, but also full of positive influences. |
