     Do we make them grow? Of course not. Children don’t grow because of our efforts – it’s not like blowing up balloons. Plants are good example. We can’t pull at them to make them grow. They grow all by themselves. But if we don’t look after them, they don’t grow or they grow badly. We are not their Creator, but we do provide something important: our care. We water them, clean and prune them, give them fertilizer, keep them protected from extremes of heat, cold or damp...

     We welcome back our children for another school year. And as we see how they’ve grown, we want to provide them once more with the right care for their development. On one of the walls in our hallway, we have a “measuring giraffe” which, with its long neck marked with a millimetre scale, and drawing pins for eyes, helps us keep track of the children’s height when we stand them up against it. And as they grow, we aim to provide them with a balanced diet, medical care when needed, good learning and studying routines, emotional support. We have not given them life, and we are not their parents either. But we hope to care for them with sufficient affectionate love and order so that those who have delegated their fostorship to us will delight with us in seeing them grow satisfactorily. Thanks also to each of the volunteers, helpers, benefactors and friends. We are all needed in this care process.
